In "The complete beginners guide to Drives"-article in AmigaFormat 132 they
say:

"You can change a partition's name, bootable status and priority, number
of cache buffers, max transfer, mask and automount settings without
losing its data."

I belive them, and I have also tried to change all these options in one turn, without any problem.
So I say you can be 99% sure nothing will happen to your data if you adjust the
max Transfere or any of the above mentioned options. Just DON'T change anything
else, like filesystem, blocksize or partition size!! If you do, your data will be lost forever.
